Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital Serves patients during COVID

Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, an advance secondary eye hospital was established in the year 1982 with kind financial support of ANDHERI HILFE Germany with local elites in Chandpur. Since its establishment, it was providing specialized eye care services like hospital service, school screening, PEC center and community outreach camps to prevent avoidable blindness from Bangladesh.

Due to development of Covid-19 in Bangladesh, it is currently providing specialized Emergency eye care services only at its base hospital in Chandpur and PEC Centers following WHO guidelines and IAPB Suggestions for the poor and ultra poor populations at free of cost under different Projects supported by ANDHERI HILFE, Orbis International, The Fred Hollows Foundation and Dutch Bangla Bank Foundation.

The hygiene and cleanliness in the hospital premises ensures work places safety for the patients, employees and well wishers. Doctors and Nurses of the hospital deliver services by wearing PPE. Due to Lockdown (Unofficial Curfew) staffs are transported by hospital vehicle minimize the risk of infection. Currently hospital served average 110 patients and 80 patients are served in 06 PEC Centers. We especially thanks our donors ANDHERI HILFE, Orbis International, The Fred Hollows Foundation, Australian Aid, Vision Spring  for supply PPE in this emerging situation of Covid-19.

The patients who arrived in the hospital are advised to maintained social distance and WASH their hand and face by sanitizer before entering in the hospital premise and screen for systemic disorders, travel history and trained staffs recognize the sign & symptoms of viral infection in patients and finally note temperature using non touch IR thermal scanner and report possible cases to local govt. hospitals for testing. After Screening patients sprayed by disinfected solution (WHO Formula) and provide a free mask to ensure personal safety during eye care services.

With COVID-19 affecting almost every part of the country, the hospital has been using its resources to help everyone, including local community with vital awareness and prevention programs. Also staffs are promoting good hand washing and raising critical awareness of the virus to help educate the local population. They've also explained the importance of physical distancing and wearing masks to try to reduce the number of cases across the areas. Posters, Leaflets are distributed among the patient and local community also hoarding banner, billboard to raise awareness.

Emergency Social Contribution for the Ultra Poor

COVID-19 has been challenging for everyone in Bangladesh and especially so for the low income population and day laborers and refugee communities. Thankfully management of the organizations has stepped up to give support to these communities by providing essential foods and necessary hand sanitizers all over the district. During Lockdown of Chandpur district, the low income people and day laborers lost their works and they passed their lives with single meal even hunger with their families. Since today organization distribute food package to 1233 families from hospital local fund by volunteers and staffs and it is essential to increase with the expansion of lockdown period up to 05th May 2020 with considering situation furthermore. Some of staffs also raise their hand in this social initiative to maximize the coverage and initiate to provide medicines like (Paracetamol, Azithromycin, Anti-Histamin, Montelucast, Vit-C) and surgical mask, hand sanitizer, soap etc at 50% discounted rate for the low income people. Since today we subsidized 2,256 people by providing mask, sanitizer, soap and medicine from our discounted center with inspiration of local district administration of Chandpur.
